Can I Wear Anti Glare Glasses All the Time?

Posted by Mitch Gantman on

If you wear glasses, you will definitely know how annoying it can be to deal with the glare that can reflect your lenses in some lighting conditions.  Fortunately, anti glare glasses are available with lenses designed to cut down on glare, improve your vision, reduce strain on your eyes, and give your lenses a much fresher, cleaner look.

Other anti glare products are available, like anti-reflective coatings, if you don’t want to shell out the money for brand new lenses.  These are applied to your current lenses and serve the same purpose as the anti glare lenses- cutting down on that annoying light reflection on your glasses.  This is a significant problem for anyone working on computers throughout the day.  The glare from the light of the computer screen on your lenses can strain your eyes, causing headaches and eye strain.

Anti glare lenses are also incredibly useful if you drive at night a lot. Since the lighting conditions are extremely challenging, especially with car headlights reflecting off your lenses, glasses with an anti-reflective coating can make it much easier to see while driving at night.  Safety while driving is incredibly important, and these products can help with that.

Both types of products are reasonable solutions.  Coatings applied to your current glasses tend to wear out over time and need to be reapplied, while special anti glare lenses can cost more, especially if you want to hang onto your current frames, but can last much longer than the coatings you apply yourself.  Some people have a pair of anti glare glasses that they use at work or while they are in front of the computer and another pair that they use throughout the day.  But maybe you only want one pair of glasses, or you want to use your anti glare glasses all day.  You may also have been wondering whether you can wear your anti glare glasses all the time.

The short answer is yes. You can wear anti glare glasses or lenses treated with anti-reflective coatings all day.  This does partially depend on the person, though.  Some people have no problem wearing their anti glare glasses all day long. At the same time, some find that they start experiencing eye fatigue, headaches, etc. After wearing these glasses for an extended period of time, especially if you are not on a computer, playing video games, or watching TV.  But as long as they are comfortable, they can be worn as long as you’d like to wear them.  Feel free to do some experimenting and see what works best for you.

You may have gotten through this whole article not knowing if your current lenses have an anti-reflective coating on them.  To figure out if they do, hold your glasses up and look for the glare that reflects into the lens when they are held up to the light.

Usually, anti-glare lenses have a bit of color to them as well, as they are often slightly green, blue, or pink-tinted.
